Visual documentation on this uniform:
Photo A
Dated 1871. Full view of team photo at left, detail view at right. This photo was hand-dated as 1870-1871. However, an 1871 photo date can be determined based on the appearance of players Nevin, Maxwell and Barnes in combination with player Wheeler. Players wore a uniform in a mid-tone color, possibly middle gray. The traditional colors of the school were gray and light blue.
Top row, from left: W Wheeler (69-71), A Nevin (71-74), Strong, C Day (70-72) and C Maxwell (71-74). Front: P Barnes (71,72), G Richards (69-72), C/H Deming (68-72) and G Benchley (70-73). Player IDs from photo. Years with team from Richard Hurd, A History Of Yale Athletics, 1840-1888 (1888). Research from David Arcidiacono.
